A Journey Through the Minds of White Ninja

Text Luke Williams

LUKE: Hey.
Kent & Scott: Hello.

How are you doin?
We are splendid.

So how long have you been doing this (and I'll let you define 'this')?
By "this" I can only assume you mean "comic strip." If you are referring to the White Ninja Comics that we draw, the answer is seven years.

So what's your favourite white ninja strip?
Scott says his is "Is White Ninja a unicorn?" or "White Ninja and the fridge of blood". Kent says his is "The Origin of White Ninja" or "White Ninja's Date" or "White Ninja waits for the bus"....but, we think they are all brilliant.

White Ninja Eats A Dead Man. Why would this happen?
There are a number of reasons for eating a dead man. why white ninja should choose to eat this particular dead man is not necessarily important to the funniness of the comic. perhaps the dead man looked especially delicious. maybe it was just one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time. whatever his motives, the outcome, I think we can all agree, was enjoyable.

I notice a theme of children, are you sick and horrible pedophiles?
Pedophiles stink. we are by no means pedophiles, nor do we endorse pedophilic behaviour. our comics speak out against such atrocities. children are meant to be enjoyed, not exploited.

What kind of music do you like?
Misfits, Strung Out, Motorhead, Lou Reed, Smashing Pumpkins, AFI, Alkaline Trio, Bad Religion, The Smiths, The Strokes, Red House Painters, Anti Flag, Further Seems Forever...are you disappointed?

How many webcomics do you read?
We didn't actually know that web comics existed until early last year (2002). Nowadays, we regularly read Elftor, Cow Goes Moo, Zxipi, and A Man and His Plant. To be perfectly honest, we don't really understand many of the other web comics out there...probably because we don't have a very good sense of humor.

Are you geeks? If so what geeky activities do you participate in?
I don't think so. I don't even know what it is that geeks do. I have to update the web site because Scott doesn't even know how to work a computer, or "computron" as he calls it.

A few strips seem to imply you actually have artistic talent; is this true?
Scott is a Fine Arts major at the University of Saskatchewan, and possibly the best artist I have ever met. Both of us have won awards for our artwork in the past. We sacrifice panel-to-panel consistency for sheer expression and personality of White Ninja.

Where do you see yourself and White Ninja in a year?
I see us sitting on a huge pile of money.

What, exactly, do you use to produce your comics?
Only the finest media: a ball point pen and Hewlett-Packard computer paper.

You have a lot of fan art; do you suppose that's cause your style is easy to duplicate?
Probably, and because they want to participate in the experience of making a White Ninja comic of their own.

Do you have a large fan base?
It could be bigger...our pile of money is still very small.

So you're a fairly new webcomic huh? How do you feel about that?
It's fine, I suppose. I wish we knew something about computer/video games so that we could cash in on the success that the more popular web comics enjoy. Actually, we don't.

Your domain name suggests you pay to keep your site up. How can you afford such luxury?
Well, the money comes mainly from bottle drives and false charities. Sometimes it seems like so much work that we think it might be easier to just get jobs. Scott wants to be a fireman.

Oh, and in White Ninja's Sick Friend; why Walt Disney? Do you not like him, or just want him sick?
We thought it would be funny to draw a picture of Walt Disney throwing up. Why? Do you not think it is funny?

Suprise 3 question attack!

How's your relationship with your mother?
Its fine, thank you for asking.

What's your favourite food that begins with C?
Cabbage. Nothing beats a good ol' head of cabbage in the morning, before school. Mmm-mmm.

If you were a members of the Greek Pantheon; what would you be the gods of?
Kent would be the god of hide-and-seek. Scott thinks he would like to be the god of warm blankets.

Anything else you'd like to say about nothing?
I accidentaly killed a racoon the other day. I ran over its head with my car. I tried to jump over it.

Thanks for the interview.
You're very welcome.
