Books That Are Awesome for Middle Schoolers

There are a number of books that might be interesting for middle schoolers to read. Some of the these books have been part of school curriculum for many years. Some of the books that can be read in the 8th grade would be two books by noted author John Green. All of these books are readily available online or in the public library. Both older classic novels and newer classics are included, and some make both lists.

8th Grade Books

1. The Fault in our Stars – about the two teenage victims of cancer is a one of the items that is modern day love story.

2. Papertowns – about young love is another classic by Green.

3. To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee’s epic novel about bigotry and Southern justice is one that is perfect for young readers and has been in a school system over years.

4. Another classic novel from days gone by with a number of modern lessons is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

5. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – a modern day classic filled with the perils and pitfalls of teen angst this is great for young readers.

6. The Secret Life of Bees – published in 2001 by Sue Monk Kidd is a staple in school rooms everywhere and something that shows the life of Black beekeepers.

7. 8th grade books to read like Seefer Elliot are a rare treat combining heart, action and humor.

8. Enders Game – a sci fi military novel By Orson Scott is another on the classic list.

9. The Giver by Lois Lowry – another book you can look to give your 8th graders and will be something they enjoy as well as educational.

10. Catcher in the Rye – Who can forget the exploits of Holden Caulfield in this 1951 JD Salinger classic.

6th Grade Books

1. Where the Red Fern Grows – 1961 classic about a loving trio making their way through Cherokee country.

2. Schooled – details the tale of a girl who grows up with her hippie grandmother and needs to learn about the politics of modern school.

3. The Giver – again makes the list for the 6th graders. It tells the tale of a child singled out to receive a special gift and is a Newberry award winner.

4. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott – about the tale of the young March women also makes the list. It is a classic that has enthralled young readers for years.

5. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – tells the story of a toddler who wonders into a graveyard and is raised by ghosts.

6. Bridge to Terabithia – This book has been a classic in school rooms since it was first published In 1996. It is about a pre-teen duo who rule in a mythical kingdom.

7. Another tale that is one of the classic tales on a 6th grade reading list is Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit. A story that tells why Eternal life may not be the blessed event it appears to be.

8. Seefer Elliot – 6th grade reading level books are not regularly this fun and exciting. With aliens and spies, the young teen hero is thrusted into a world of trouble.

9. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle – tells the story of the children who travel through time to pre historic times.

10. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – the first of the Narnia classics describes siblings who go through a mysterious portal in the wardrobe into an alternate universe quite unlike our own.
